Mara Massimi graduated with honors in Biological Sciences in 1987 and obtained the title of PhD in 1993 at the University of Rome Sapienza. Recipient of various CNR fellowships for research abroad with national selections, completed her training at the University of California - San Francisco (1993-1997), where she carried out research in the field of regulation of gene expression in the hepatic lobule, with particular attention to the expression of key proteins of lipid metabolism. As part of this project, received an award from the American Liver Foundation. Researcher since 2001 and associate professor since 2018, in the same year qualified as full professor. She is carrying out teaching activities at the University of L'Aquila. After being in charge of the courses of Molecular Biology of the Cell, Cell Biology, Laboratory of Microscopic Techniques and Histology, is currently appointed professor of Comparative Anatomy, of the Laboratory of Experimental Biology I (Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences) and of Molecular Biology of Cell and Development (Master's Degree in Biology of Health and Nutrition). She is a member of the following Scientific Societies: ABCD, AICC, CellTox, ESTIV, GEI. She is carrying out research activity in the field of Cell Biology. Major fields of interest: (a) Effects of cyclic AMP modulation in hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic steatosis. (b) Evaluation of potential protective and/or antitumor effects of natural molecules and nutraceutics on in vitro models of human enterocytes and hepatocytes. (c) Effects of hormones, nutrients or pro/antioxidant agents on the pathophysiology of liver cells. (d) Use of different nanoparticles of different sizes and composition for the hepato-specific delivery of drugs and bioactive molecules.
