I completed fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at UAB and joined the faculty of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. I have spent the past 9 years of my career training in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology, with the last two years spent exclusively focused on hepatology. At UAB, we established a cohort of patients with GAVE. We studied the relationship between metabolic syndrome and GAVE. We also reported on different treatment modalities of GAVE as well as the effect of liver transplant on the condition. We proposed a classification for GAVE based on the location and endoscopic appearance of the lesions. We hope that this classification will raise the awareness of GAVE as it is frequently misclassified on the endoscopy. Our transitional research project aim is to establish a relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the presence of GAVE. This will allow for a better understanding of GAVE as vasculopathy process which could related to the presence of metabolic syndrome. We also reported on the utility of sarcopenia as predictor of mortality following TIPS placement in cirrhotics. Our center published a study on the utility of DAAs without Ribavirin or treatment of HCV recurrence following liver transplants. For the years 2020 and 2021, I was selected as one of the top ten teachers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, department of medicine.
