With a degree in medicine from the University of Würzburg Medical School, and after completing internships at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York, USA and University Hospital Bern in Switzerland, I started my residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine at the Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg, Germany in 2010. This included rotations in all subspecialties of Internal Medicine including the emergency room and intensive care unit. Board certification in internal medicine was achieved in April 2016. Board Certification in Gastroenterology was achieved in October 2019. Since 12/2018 I am working as a consultant. Since the early beginning of my education as specialized gastroenterologist, I was involved in both basic research as well as treatment and description of extraordinary clinical cases. My research within the workgroup of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Frank Lammert, is focused on genetic factors in complex diseases and includes several national and international cooperations. Three times (2014, 2017 and 2018) I could acquire intramural funds for the assessment of genetic risk factors in diverticulosis and predicitive genetic factors for hepatic decompensation (HOMFOR Fund T201000747, in total about 30000€). Additionally I am involved in several clinical trials, including local responsibility for the multicentric INCA-Trial (EudraCT 2013-001626-26). I am an active member of the German Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (DGVS) and European Association for the study of the Liver (EASL).
