During his specialization in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córddoba (Spain) he began his formation in clinical reseach methodology. After finishing his internship he worked as a research fellow at the Royal Free Hospital in London, UK (2011-2012). There he focused his research in liver transplantation, particularly in the relationship between immunosuppression, rejection and hepatocellular carcinoma. Back in Spain he works as a consultant Hepatologist at the Reina Sofía University Hospital and form part of the research board of the Spanish association for the study of the liver (AEEH). His recent research highlights that liver transplant patients are over-immunosuppressed in the current clinical scenario. The development of new diagnostic tools for rejection and to reduce cancer burden related to immunosuppression are the future aims of his current research.
