Higuera-de la Tijera has a medical degree in Mexico. Her postgraduate studies include Specialty in Gastroenterology, and also has a Master in Medical Sciences, and is candidate to PhD by The Faculty of Medicine from Mexico´s National Autonomous University. Higuera-de la Tijera has wrote and published numerous SCI journal papers and book chapters, has participated as external reviewer for many academic journals, and has dictated many conferences as Guest Professor. She was awarded with “Stimulus Angeles Espinosa Yglesias” (2010) by Mexican Foundation for Health, Mexican Foundation for the Hepatic Health and Amparo Foundation, supporting a postgraduate fellowship in investigation for liver diseases, which was developed by Higuera-de la Tijera at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Mexico′s General Hospital “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga”. She also was awarded with “Prize Rolando Figueroa Barrios” by Latin-American Association for the Study of Liver for her investigation conducted in patients with alcoholic hepatitis (2012). She was named as “Honorary Member” by the International Confederation of Health (2012). Vocal of Directive Board (2017-2018) from Mexican Association of Hepatology. Professor of the Chair of “Clinical Pathology” at Anahuac University, Mexico, since 2012. She is the Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department from Mexico´s General Hospital "Dr. Eduardo Liceaga" since December 2016. Titular Proffesor of the Postgraduate Course of Gastroenterology at The Faculty of Medicine from Mexico´s National Autonomous University.Her principal investigation lines include alcoholic liver disease; hepatitis; hepatic encephalopathy; non alcoholic fatty liver disease and non alcoholic steatohepatitis; cirrhosis and its complications.
