Dr. Salim is currently involved in the study of differentiation mechanisms of bone marrow derived stem cells into cardiac micro-environment both in vitro and in vivo. This includes stem cell isolation, propagation, identification and transplantation into the infarcted heart and determination of their fate by functional analysis. Different strategies to  enhance cardiac differentiation potential including small molecules, chemical and genetic modifications are utilized in the research studies. Dr. Salim is also involved in stem cell regeneration potential for pancreatic beta cells for diabetes and skin regeneration for wound healing studies
