Lactulose, rifaximin, and probiotics not only reduce the circulating levels of ammonia but also modulate intestinal flora, lower the endotoxemia and inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. MARS treatment also decreases the circulating levels of ammonia and pro-inflammatory cytokines.
