Barbara Braden is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Oxford University Hospitals specializing in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Cologne, Germany and undertook postgraduate training at the University Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, where she worked as Clinical Lead of the Endoscopy Unit. She was awarded a PhD for her research in gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatic function tests and became Professor of Gastroenterology with a personal chair at the University in Frankfurt in 2006. She developed new 13C- breath tests for non-invasive function testing. Dr Braden is a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology. She joined the Gastroenterology team in Oxford at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Her clinical interests are therapeutic endoscopy, especially endoscopic resection techniques for treatment of early tumours in the upper gastrointestinal tract, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP. Her research interests are focused on new endoscopic and endoscopic ultrasound guided treatment methods. She has published over hundred papers on clinical aspects of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases in peer-reviewed scientific international journals and she has written more than 25 book chapters. She is reviewer for >20 international journals, including the major gastroenterology and endoscopic journals.
