Dr. Reshetnyak is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of propaedeutic of internal diseases and gastroenterology, Russian University of Medicine, Russia. Having received his MD degree from I M Sechenov the First Moscow Medical Institute in 1977, Dr. Reshetnyak undertook his postgraduate training at the A N Bach Institute of biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and in 1982 he received the degree of PhD. In 1996, Dr. Reshetnyak upholded his doctoral thesis (DSc of Medicine). Dr. Reshetnyak has been a senior scientific researcher in the department of chronic liver diseases and then Deputy Director on scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Gastroenterology. His ongoing research interests are to study of pathogenesis of cholestatic liver diseases, the significance of dormant forms of Helicobacter pylori in ulcerogenesis. Dr. Reshetnyak proposed a new concept for the treatment of pruritus in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis. Under the guidance of Professor Reshetnyak, 5 candidate's (PhD) and two doctoral (DSc) dissertations were prepared and defended. V. Reshetnyak author (co-author) of several monographs, textbooks and more than 150 published articles in Russian and foreign journals. Prof. Reshetnyak is a member of editorial boards of journals “World Journal of Gastroenterology” and "General reanimathology". He was awarded the Robert Koch medal by the European scientific society at the European Academy of Natural Sciences.
