Dr. Andrea Lauterio is an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy since February, 2022. Having received his MD degree from University of Milano, Italy in 2000, Dr. Lauterio undertook his postgraduate training at the ASST GOM Milano Niguarda, and has been an Attending Surgeon in the General Surgery & Abdominal Organ Transplantation Division, Department of Transplantation since 2006. Dr. Lauterio, is board-certified in general surgery and specialty trained in abdominal organs transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. His expertise lie in liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, primary and metastatic liver cancer, and minimally invasive procedures focused on robotic surgery. He serves as an Attending Surgeon at the Division of General Surgery & Transplantation - ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Milanese - Niguarda, Milan, Italy. Dr. Lauterio received focused training on living donor liver transplantation with particular attention to the surgical technique and the immunosuppressive protocols, as a Visiting Surgeon, at the University of Pittsburgh (PA), Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute from April in 2003. He completed his training in multi-organ procurement, abdominal organ transplantation, split-liver procedures, living donor liver and kidney donation and transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery. as a resident at the Division of General surgery & Transplantation, Niguarda Hospital, Milan. He had the opportunity to access the robotic surgical training laboratory to practice and develop skills in advanced applications of the robotic system, as a Visiting Surgeon, at the University of Illinois Chicago UIC, Hospital and Health Sciences System, Department of Surgery in 2017. Dr. Lauterio is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS), Division of Transplantation (Union Européenne Des Médecins Spécialistes). He serves as a reviewer of several scientific journals, and has published 135 peer-reviewed articles (PubMed) in high profile professional journals such as Gastroenterology and Journal of Hepatology, and presented at major scientific conferences. His author’s h-index: 23; citations: 2.163 (November 2023) Dr. Lauterio ongoing research interests include novel immunosuppression strategies in abdominal organ transplantation, living donation, the role of laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques in liver surgery and kidney procurement from living donor, the new strategies in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver metastases including multi-stage resection of complex liver lesions, grafts preservation, and policy issues regarding living donation and organ allocation.
