Dr. Zaigham Abbas is currently working as Head of the Department of Hepatogastroenterology and Liver Transplantation at Dr. Ziauddin University Hospital, Clifton Karachi. He is the Past President of the Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases (2019-2021), member and ex-dean of the Faculty of Gastroenterology in the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and Past Governor of the American College of Gastroenterology for Pakistan. He remained a member of the Guidelines Committees and Hepatology Interest Group of the World Gastroenterology Organization. He is Associate Editor of Hepatology International, the official journal of APASL. He is a founding member of the Executive Committee, of the South Asian Association for the Study of the Liver. He is a member of the Academic Board, The Kidney Centre Postgraduate Training Institute, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Aga Khan University. He is an ex-member of the Executive Committee of APASL and ex-Vice President of the Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology. He established the Department of Hepatogastroenterology at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and served as its Head for fifteen years where he trained many fellows in gastroenterology and hepatology and helped to start the liver transplantation program. He established the living donor liver transplantation program at Dr. Ziauddin University Hospital in 2022. He has represented Pakistan in many international meetings as a faculty member. He is currently doing collaborative work with the Hepatitis Delta International Network and APASL ACLF Research Consortium. He has more than 250 publications to his credit in peer-reviewed journals.
