Dr. Maria Lina Tornesello, graduated cum laude in 1988 at the Faculty of Science of University "Federico II" - Napoli, Italy and achieved the specialty in Microbiology and Virology in 1994 at the “Federico II” Medical School - Napoli. From 1989 to 1990 was recipient of a postdoctoral fellowship from the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC). After an International fellowship at the Tumor Biology Program, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA, USA (1991-1992), she became an assistant member of the Experimental Oncology at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Fond Pascale. Presently is the head of Tumor Marker lab at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Fond Pascale. The research activities mainly focused on viral-related tumorigenesis with particular interest in the study of viral and host interaction in HPV and genital cancer, HHV8 and Kaposi sarcoma, and in HCV/HBV and liver cancer. More recently the research activity has been extended to the study of host susceptibility and accumulation of genetic alterations in the carcinogenesis of hepatitis viruses-driven tumors.
