I received my medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1994 and completed Internal Medicine training at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. After three years practicing general medicine in an underserved community I returned to Lenox Hill for Gastroenterology fellowship, where I became interested in clinical research in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Following fellowship I initially joined a private practice, but returned to academic medicine almost eight years ago at North Shore University Hospital, now the primary teaching hospital of the Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine. Since my return to academic practice I have been able to pursue my interests in clinical teaching, as well as resuming my research career and building a referral IBD practice within the institution. As the site Director of the IBD Program I am involved in several clinical trials as the site’s principal investigator. I also continue to work on numerous investigator initiated study protocols, presenting regularly at national meetings, including an oral presentation at the 2016 ACG meeting which received the award for the “Best Scientific Paper in the IBD Category”. I am a founding member and current Treasurer of the New York Crohn’s and Colitis Organization (NYCCO), a research group of regional IBD investigators representing the major teaching centers within New York City and the surrounding area. I am also a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), and have been an invited speaker at both patient and physician educational conferences at their invitation.
