Assistant Professor George Karamanolis was born in Athens in 1967. He graduated from Athens Medical School in 1998 and he completed his medical training in Gastroenterology in 2004. He obtained a PhD degree in 2004. He moved to Belgium for specialized training in gastro-intestinal motility for almost 2 years (2004-2005). He was a research fellow at the Center for Gastroenterological Research at the University of Leuven, Belgium under the supervision of Prof. J. Tack. He was appointed Senior Registrar in Attikon University Hospital (Athens-Greece) for approximately 5 years (2006 – 2011). After that, he was appointed Lecturer and later Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology at Athens Medical School. His research focuses on pathophysiology of oesophageal motility and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He is also interested in IBS, IBD and dyspepsia topics. He serves as a reviewer for most of the gastroenterology journals and has authored or co-authored more than 75 full papers in peer-reviewed medical journals with approximately 1500 citations.  He gave more than 140 lectures in national and international congresses.
