Dr Thompson is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee, he finished his Doctor of Pharmacy and Ambulatory Care/Family Medicine Pharmacy residency at the same institution. He joined the faculty of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and University of North Carolina College of Pharmacy in 1986, where his clinical practice focused on family medicine. His research interests include clinical management of inflammatory disorders, particularly gastroenterology and respiratory therapeutics. He is currently Director of Gastroenterology and Respiratory Therapeutics at Lipscomb University and also teaches the Pharmacotherapy curriculum for the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Nurse Practitioner Degree Program. Dr. Thompson has had several grants funded and has published several papers during his academic career. He has also worked in the US Pharmaceutical Industry for over 15 years in drug information, medical affairs, clinical research, marketing, and as a regional medical scientist.
