Tomasz H Mach completed his physician and gastroenterology training at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland. Graduated (MD) from the University Medical School, Krakow, Poland, where he also received PhD (internal medicine) and DSc (gastroenterology) and served as Assistant, Associate Professor, Professor of Medicine and recently (since 2005) Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Medical Faculty, the Jagiellonian University Medical College, Krakow, Poland. Two 12-months fellowships at the University of California, Irvine, USA in 1981-82 and 1990. He has board specialist degree of internal medicine and gastroenterology. He served as local president of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology (2005-2013), and V-ce President of the Government of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology (sine 2013). Publications and presentations: 170 full, peer reviewed publications (Gastroenterology, Gut, Dig. Dis. Sci., J. Hepatology, Am. J. Gastroenterology and others); 15 book chapters; 250 presentations at international & national meetings; 5 peer reviewed funded grants. Clinical and Research interest: endoscopic and histologic assessment of injury and protection of gastrointestinal mucosa; mechanisms of gastroduodenal ulcer healing, effect of NSAIDs, prostaglandins; relationship between endothelial damage and coagulation disorders in inflammatory bowel diseases; over the past 15 years interests in chronic liver diseases and in particular viral hepatitis and metabolic disturbances in liver diseases. Directed numerous dissertations on GI diseases and hepatology. Editorial Boards - 5 scientific journals. Four of his GI Clinical Fellows hold academic positions in Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
