Dr. Cyrla Zaltman is an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Having received his MD degree from Federal Medical University of Rio de Janeiro in 1979, Dr. Cyrla undertook her postgraduate in Internal Medicine training at the Federal Hospital of Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1980-1982) and in Gastroenterology at the Federal Hospital of Bonsucesso, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1982-1984). She obtained her Master degree in Gastroenterology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1984-1987) and PhD degree in Gastroenterology at Federal University of Sao Paulo, UNIFESP, Brazil (1994-1997). In 2011, she made a Senior Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellowship at Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit Hospital Clínic, Barcelona, Spain, under the instruction of Professor Julian Panes (1991). She has been an Associate Professor in the Gastroenterology Division, Department of Internal Medicine since 1996. Her ongoing research interests are inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal diseases (clinical, epidemiological and endoscopic research). Dr Cyrla served as President of the Brazilian Inflammatory Bowel disease Study Group (2017-2018) and she has been the Coordinator of Clinical Protocols of the Gastroenterology Division of The University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho since 2000, until now. Dr Cyrla is a member of the editorial board of Arquivos Brasileiros de Gastroenterologia, IBD reviews, World Journal of Gastroenterology and also Editor of International Journal of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (until 2019). She is a reviewer of Scientific Journals and published peer reviewed articles mainly related to inflammatory bowel disease.
