Dr. Soresi's scientific activities: Most of his scientific activity is dedicated to the hepatologic, metabolic, oncologic and geriatric diseases as well as to the use of ultrasound in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and lung disease. Ultrasounds: (1) the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma; (2) the role of ultrasound in the management of patients with heart failure; and (3) the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of bowel disease. Hepatology: (1) Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Epidemiological, metabolic and ultrasound aspects (ultrasound and elastography); (2) therapy in patients with hepatitis B virus/hepatitis C virus-associated liver disease; and (3) the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. Metabolism: (1) Relationships between lipid metabolism, obesity and liver disease (NAFLD/NASH); and (2) diabetic disease. Gastroenterology: Coeliac disease, Non-Celiac Wheat Sensitivity, chronic pancreatitis. Oncology: (1) Modifications of the levels of adhesion molecules and interleukins in hepatic tumors; (2) the role of cyclooxygenase-2 and its polymorphisms in hepatocarcinogenesis and angiogenesis; (3) usefulness of tumor markers in the diagnosis of hepatocarcinoma associated with cirrhosis; (4) the role of ultrasound and other imaging techniques as diagnostic methods in benign and malignant tumors; and (5) evaluation and complications of alternative therapies to surgery in primitive and secondary liver tumors.
