Editorial Board
With a medical degree in Timisoara, Romania, and a PhD Thesis in 1992 at “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania, in 2002 Ioan Sporea was nominated a permanent professorship in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Faculty of Medicine at the same University. His main scientific interests are: liver elastography; Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound, the diagnosis and treatment of hepatocarcinoma; diagnosis and treatment of chronic HCV hepatitis. Among his national priorities are the percutaneous treatment of liver tumors by PEIT and RFA. He is one of the pioneers in the research regarding liver elastography by ARFI and 2D-SWE technique. He trained numerous postgraduate students, published 75 SCI journal papers (33 as first author). He is author or co-author of 14 books; of 14 book chapters, and edited/reviewed for many academic journals, also he is one of the authors of EFSUMB Guidelines for Elastography. He is a member of the editorial board of: Ultraschall in der Medizin, Medical Ultrasonography, Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, World Journal of Gastroenterology. He was an invited speaker at numerous international meetings organized by EFSUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology), WFUMB (World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology), UEG (United European Gastroenterology). He is the Executive President of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Past President of the Romanian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. He was a member of the Educational Committee of EFSUMB from 1999 to 2005 and Honorary Treasurer of EFSUMB from 2007 to 2011. He is Director of the European Center of Excellence of WFUMB.
