Dr. Toru Mizuguchi, born in 1967, in Hokkaido, was given the medical master degree after graduation from Sapporo Medical University in 1997, and worked in Department of Surgery in Sapporo Medical University Hospital as a resident. Owing to his excellent academic performance, he was invited by Dr. Demetriou to go abroad to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in California, USA as Research Fellow in 1998 and recruited as Research Scientist in 1999. He continued his study after he came back to Japan. Now he is Associate Professor in Department of Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Science, Sapporo Medical University Hospital, Sapporo Medical University School of Medicine. Dr. Mizuguchi assumes the councilor board member of Japan Society of Clinical Oncology, The Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, Japan Surgical Society, Japan Surgical Association, The Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery, Japanese Society for Abdominal Emergency Medicine, Japan Society for Surgical Infection, Japanese Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, and Japanese college of Surgeons. Dr. Mizuguchi serves as editorial board member of Japan Society for Surgical Infection, World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, and Annals of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery. Dr. Mizuguchi has been long engaged in clinical and research work of the Hepatology and Hepatobiliary surgery, especially in those of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. His scientific research, teaching and academic exchanges have also a quite influence both at nation and abroad. He has published more than 100 papers in periodicals and journals at home and abroad.
