Flow can be noted within the articular space by using color or doppler flow while compressing the joint space. This technique prevents inaccurately inserting the needle within solid masses. Note the needle is best visualized when the probe is perpendicular to the needle. Long arrow indicates tibia cortical bone. Short arrow indicates needle tip. Star indicates joint space.
