Visfatin treatment increased the level of interleukin (IL)-6 in circulation. Adiponectin reduced the production of IL-6 and macrophage chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 by inflamed adipocytes. IL-1β increased the expression of MCP-1 in aortic smooth muscle cells. Thus, the interplay among adipokines may significantly affect the pathogenesis of atherogenesis.
