Under normal conditions autophagy is strictly regulated in response to stimuli to preserve cytoplasm homeostasis. Excessive downregulation promotes gastric carcinogenesis and upon malignant transformation, the autophagic over activity contributes to progression, metastasis and negative prognosis. H. pylori: Helicobacter pylori.
