Microplastics enhance the expression of transforming growth factor-β and fibronectin, as well as the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and the cGAS/STING pathway to promote the progression of hepatic fibrosis; cirrhotic complications disrupt the intestinal barrier and increase the absorption of microplastics.
