Phospholipids are cleaved by phospholipases to render arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase activity generates the precursor prostaglandin H2 that is converted in the different prostaglandins (PGs) by prostaglandin synthases and thromboxane A2, by thromboxane synthase.
