Treatment with everolimus alone reduced significantly the amount of PCNA-positive cells in the anastomotic region while increasing the number of MPO-positive cells, indicating a prolonged inflammation. Simultaneous treatment with hGH led to nearly normal values for PCNA- and MPO-positive cells.
