Figure 2 Resistin enhances the expression of tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 6, interleukin 8 and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 in hepatic stellate cells. Rat hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) at day 4 were cultured with resistin (500 ng/mL) (R500) for 24 h. Total RNA was extracted and quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to quantify mRNA expression. Media were collected and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay conducted to determine interleukin 6 (IL-6) and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) protein concentrations. A: mRNA expression of tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1, IL-1α and IL-1; B: IL-6 and MCP-1 protein levels. Data are expressed as mean ± SD. At least three independent experiments were conducted in triplicate for data analysis. aP < 0.05 vs controls (untreated).
