The epidermis shows mild irregular acanthosis with a small amount of overlying compact keratin (thin arrow). There is superficial dermal oedema associated with vacuolar change of the basal layer of the epidermis (thick arrow). Within the dermis is a mixed inflammatory cell infiltrate.
