Gray-scale US image (A) and split-screen display images of a contrast-enhanced US scan using a low MI technique (B-D).The gray-scale image shows an ill-defined heterogeneous mass in the left lobe of the liver (between callipers, A). A subcapsular anechoic fluid collection is also seen (arrow, A). After microbubble injection, regional hypervascularity during the arterial phase is shown (arrowheads, B-D). The abscess appears as a cluster of non-enhancing collections separated from each other by enhancing septations (B and C). In the late phase scan (D), there is no enhancement of the fluid collections and no wash out of the enhancing portions.
