NAFLD prevalence was determined ultrasonographically in 3229 Japanese adults (mean age 52.4 years, 45.9% males) in the Tokushima health screening center. The subjects had no history of alcohol abuse, defined as an alcohol intake of > 20 g per day, and were seronegative for HBsAg and HCV antibody. The overall prevalence of NAFLD was 25.6%.
